When it comes to X safety capacitors, the most common ones are X1 and X2 capacitors.
X safety capacitors have a non-inductive structure, made from metallized polypropylene film as the dielectric/electrode, wound into a coil. The leads are made from tin-plated copper-clad steel wire, and the capacitor is sealed in a plastic casing using epoxy resin. They are primarily used for power line EMI suppression circuits and other AC applications.
X capacitors are divided into X1, X2, and X3, with the main differences being:
X1: High-voltage tolerance greater than 2.5 kV and less than or equal to 4 kV.
X2: High-voltage tolerance of less than or equal to 2.5 kV.
X3: High-voltage tolerance of less than or equal to 1.2 kV.
Currently, the most common safety capacitors are rated at 275V, 305V, and 310V. The higher the rated voltage, the greater the voltage tolerance margin, leading to a longer service life.
Price
X1 safety capacitors are relatively expensive, which is why they are used less frequently.
X2 safety capacitors are more affordable, offering better cost-performance, which is why X2 capacitors are the most widely used among X safety capacitors.
Same Function
The functional difference between the two is minimal, and they can even be considered identical in function.
X capacitors are connected between the two power lines (L-N) to suppress electromagnetic interference (EMI) from the power supply.
Both X1 and X2 safety capacitors can also be used as resistive-capacitive dropper capacitors.
Voltage Rating
The voltage rating of X1 and X2 capacitors differs:
X1: >2.5 kV ≤4.0 kV
X2: ≤2.5 kV
