When it comes to ensuring the reliability and longevity of capacitors under humid conditions, different grades of robustness are essential. Here, we explain the three grades of robustness under humidity for X2 capacitors, including their testing conditions and applications.
Grade I General Steady-State Humidity
Definition
This grade is for general applications where the capacitor is exposed to moderate levels of humidity.
Testing Conditions (IB)
The test is conducted at 85°C with 85% relative humidity for 168 hours.
Applications
Suitable for environments with occasional humidity exposure, such as household electronics that are not constantly exposed to extreme conditions.
Note
We currently do not perform this 168-hour test.
Grade II High Robustness Under High Humidity
Definition
This grade is designed for applications where the capacitor is exposed to high levels of humidity for extended periods.
Testing Conditions (IIB)
The test is conducted at 85°C with 85% relative humidity for 500 hours.
Applications
Ideal for industrial and outdoor applications where the capacitor faces prolonged exposure to high humidity, such as in power supplies or HVAC systems.
Note
This is our standard testing condition, ensuring capacitors can handle tough environments.
Grade III Very High Robustness Under High Humidity
Definition
This grade is for the most demanding applications, where capacitors need to withstand extreme humidity conditions for a very long time.
Testing Conditions (IIIB)
The test is conducted at 85°C with 85% relative humidity for 1000 hours.
Applications
Best for critical applications that require the highest reliability under continuous high humidity, such as in automotive or aerospace sectors.
Note
We are capable of conducting this 1000-hour test, but it requires special notation and customized materials.
