Temperature Coefficient of the abbreviation, meaning negative temperature coefficient, refers to the negative temperature coefficient of semiconductor materials or components, usually we mention the NTC refers to the negative temperature coefficient thermistor, referred to as NTC thermistor. Also known as negative temperature coefficient thermistor, is a class of resistance value with the temperature increases and decreases a sensor resistance.
NTC thermistor is a very simple temperature sensor, very common in consumer electronics.NTC thermistor is a typical temperature-sensitive semiconductor resistor, its resistance value with the increase in temperature is a step decrease.
NTC thermistors are made of metal oxides such as manganese, cobalt, nickel, and copper, and are manufactured using a ceramic process. These metal oxide materials are semiconducting in nature, as they are completely similar to semiconducting materials such as germanium and silicon in the way they conduct electricity. When the temperature is low, the number of carriers (electrons and holes) of these oxide materials is small, so their resistance value is high; as the temperature rises, the number of carriers increases, so the resistance value decreases.

NTC thermistors are divided into three generations of products based on their structure:
The first generation of products is called block ceramic NTC thermistor.
The second generation of products is called multilayer ceramic NTC thermistor, and the second generation of products is called multilayer ceramic NTC thermistor.
The third generation of ceramic thick film type NTC thermistor, its temperature measurement range is generally in -10 ~ +300 ℃, but there are also higher temperature measurement of the thermistor, one of the more important parameters is the rated zero-power resistance and accuracy, that is, 25 ℃ resistance, we often say that the resistance of the thermistor in fact, has been defaulted to the resistance at 25 ℃, the NTC thermistor by the NTC thermistors are made of mixed oxide polycrystalline ceramics. NTC Thermistors Parameter &Measurement
There are two more important parameters for NTC selection, one is the resistance value at 25°C and the other is the B constant (25/50°C). If these two parameters are the same for two NTCs, the curves of their NTC resistance values and temperatures are almost similar, and they can be substituted.
The NTC measurement should be done in two steps.
Step one:
Measure its nominal resistance value at 25°C. For example, 100K NTC. at 25 ℃ with a multimeter or resistance meter its resistance value, record the measured value and the nominal value for comparison;
Step two:
Measure the resistance value at a specific temperature. For example: the 100K NTC at a constant temperature of 60 ℃ (recommended to use the oil tank for measurement, because the temperature of the oil tank is more constant) to measure its resistance value, record the measured value and the nominal value for comparison, the test resistance value should be about 24.5K.
